Who you gonna call? The one with the recommendations, of course.

By: Jay Bryant-Wimp, RPh

In our competitive marketplace where businesses compete for customers and referral sources; customer satisfaction is a key differentiator. Successful businesses are ones that make customer satisfaction a key element of their business strategy. Think of yourself when it comes to customer satisfaction. If you have recommendations or read positive reviews for one business, would that sway your opinion? Probably. So how does that recommendation originally start? More than likely it’s based on a good customer experience. Companies who offer an extra-mile customer experience, like Accurate Rx, create environments where satisfaction is high and customer advocates are plenty. Let us show you the Accurate Rx Experience!

What Does it Mean to be an Accurate Rx Client?

At Accurate Rx Pharmacy we use the word client to describe those that use our services. You might ask why we use this word instead of referral source, consumer, or patient, and the answer is simple. The origin of the word client describes a relationship that is protective in nature.  So we strive to meet this expectation of being a pro-active resource to not only exceed your expectations when it comes to your patient’s health, but also as it pertains to their health care benefits.

We will always advocate for our shared patients, even when they are simply part of a patient community or a long-standing client.  We even helped get an important piece of legislation through the process and are now serving as content consultants regarding the language of the law.  The law will help protect those with bleeding disorders in the state of Missouri, ensuring timely deliveries of medication, competency of pharmacy staff and immediate recall notices.

Additionally, we will continue to work towards excellence by adhering to the accreditation and qualification standards. Our pursuit of exceptional care by choice and not by chance is not just a tagline, but part of the culture at Accurate Rx.

With this in mind, join us as a member of our Accurate Rx community as our client.  We will do all we can to exceed your expectations and protect clients by striving for the best clinical and fiscally responsible outcome possible!

An Introduction to Bleeding Disorders and Hemophilia

Bleeding disorders are classified by the inability to form a proper blood clot. These bleeds are often identified when an injury or surgery occurs but they can also be spontaneous. There are 13 clotting factors in the body and if any of these factors are missing or inactive, a bleeding disorder can occur. There are three types of Hemophilia: mild, moderate, and severe bleeding disorders. There are approximately 20,000 cases of Hemophilia in the United States and about 400 new cases are diagnosed each year. There are 7 types of bleeding disorders; Hemophilia A, Hemophilia B, von Willebrand’s Disease, Rosenthal’s Disease, Hageman Factor Deficiency, Fletcher Factor Deficiency, and Fitzgerald Factor Deficiency.

Hemophilia is controlled with regular doses of factor and preventative doses of factor before planned surgeries. Factor can be given in the hospital, at an ambulatory infusion center, at home by a trained nurse professional, or infused at home by the hemophiliac. No matter how or where you infuse, there are several key components of care that need to be addressed. At Accurate Rx, your team is chosen to meet your individual needs. We listen to you and provide specific infusion, medical supply, and safety equipment requests. Our nationally recognized clinicians in pharmacy, nursing, and social work can assist you with around the clock support to ensure your safety and happiness in controlling your bleeding disorder. Supporting the entire family through the learning process is important and we will provide all the educational and training resources to help you, your community, and others in your family’s life understand what is involved in managing a bleeding disorder.

Accurate Rx is one of only a few providers that offer continuous infusion and possibly the only home infusion pharmacy with published protocols and outcomes data. Our clinicians will work collaboratively with your healthcare team to provide appropriate therapy before, during, and after a procedure, trauma and spontaneous bleeds. Having this access to our experienced clinicians is just one of the many benefits of our complete care. We will work directly with your physicians and nurses to assist them in developing a care plan specific to your needs. We also offer additional screening and dosing adjustments to better protect you and your family. During your experience, our clinicians will support and empower you every step of the way.

Case Study: Hemophilia Patient’s Best Interest

Recently Accurate Rx received a referral for a patient with hemophilia. This patient had a benefit for his anti-hemophilic factor medication on both the medical and pharmacy benefit.

His previous pharmacy only had experience with billing the pharmacy benefit. The pharmacy benefit management (PBM) company had suddenly blocked the pharmacy from submitting any more claims for the medication.  The pharmacy then told the patient and the referring physician that they could no longer provide medication for the patient.  Unfortunately, the patient was still dosing after a procedure on his knee and needed his medication.

The Hemophilia Treatment Center physician called Accurate Rx Pharmacy to see if our team could provide medication for the patient.  Our team went into action and received an authorization on the medical side of the patient’s benefits to provide him medication for the remainder of his post-op therapy.  Since he recently had a surgery, his out-of-pocket cost had been met.

The bottom line is that the patient received medication from Accurate Rx Pharmacy on Thanksgiving Day and until the end of the year, utilizing the patient’s medical benefit.  We re-evaluated his benefits at the beginning of the new-year and discovered that it would be more beneficial for him financially to receive his medication through the PBM-owned pharmacy.  Accurate Rx Pharmacy remains available to take on infusion nursing as needed. We will always be a resource for this patient’s educational needs.  Additionally, Accurate Rx will be there if his deductible on his medical benefit is met and he would prefer to obtain medication from our dedicated team.

At Accurate Rx Pharmacy we have a greater than 95% success rate when it comes to working with insurance to provide in-network care for patients with bleeding disorders.  Please contact us today to see how we can be a member of your team!

Continuous infusion of anti-hemophilic factor: Experience Matters

By: Jay Bryant-Wimp

If your patient requires surgery or has experienced trauma, you might consider ordering continuous infusion of factor therapy.  Continuous infusion involves the administration of factor over an extended period of time.  Continuous infusion has been proven to be a safe and effective therapy for treatment of bleeding disorders during and after procedures or trauma.¹
Some common questions that we receive may help you as you navigate through the benefits and risk when making the decision about surgery and continuous infusion.

Why should I consider continuous infusion rather than traditional dosing?
Continuous infusion offers many advantages to traditional dosing. We’ll be happy to show you and your healthcare team the related articles and case studies as well as our Accurate Continuous Anti-hemophilic factor Therapy (ACAT) protocol.  There is also a select list of references from our library listed below.

At what point should I contact Accurate Rx Pharmacy about a procedure?
Contact us as soon as you find out about the need for a procedure. We will begin the coordination process, work with your patient and start them on the road to a successful outcome.  We can also serve as a liaison between insurance and even help facilitate hospital coordination.  Our clinicians have served as experts and will be of service to you and your team.

Why should I trust Accurate Rx Pharmacy?
Because of our vast experience, our team has seen firsthand what patients encounter and be your extended staff through the process of transitioning to home.  Accurate Rx Pharmacy is one of only a few providers that offer continuous infusion and possibly the only home infusion pharmacy with published protocols and outcomes data.²  Our clinicians will work collaboratively with you and your patient to provide appropriate continuous infusion therapy and proactive communication before, during and after the procedure or trauma.

Contact us at 1.888.335.4279 for more information about the Accurate Rx continuous infusion therapy experience.
